Top Insider Shares Unexpected News on Anze Kopitar's Future in the NHL
Anze Kopitar has long been a star for the Los Angeles Kings, but according to John Hoven, this may be his final season in the National Hockey League.
The Los Angeles Kings have been on the verge of something great for a number of years now, but unfortunately, they've run into the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the past four seasons.
They've lost each and every one of those series, with the team failing to thrive since winning their last Stanley Cup as a group, and now, they may be on the verge of losing a key piece of those teams.
According to a report from John Hoven, long-time captain Anze Kopitar is unlikely to sign an extension with the team, as it has been revealed that the 37-year old will likely be playing his final season in the National Hockey League in 2025/26.
Back in 2005, Kopitar was drafted with the No. 11 overall pick by the Kings, playing in 1,454 regular season games with the team to this point, tallying an incredible 440 goals and 1,278 points in that time, as well as being a key piece of their two Stanley Cup runs in the 2010's.
In those two Cup runs, Kopitar posted 33 points in 46 games played, giving this team success like they've never seen before, and if this truly is the end, he'll no doubt go down as one of, if not the greatest Los Angeles King of all-time.
There's still time for Kopitar to change his mind and go around one more time after 2026, but he'll be 38 by that point, and with all he's accomplished in the NHL, it would be the best move for him to walk away while he's still playing at a high level, as he has already cemented himself as an all-time great in the NHL.
