Chicago Blackhawks Sign Hulking 6-Foot-8 Defenseman to Multi-Year Deal

Thursday, the Chicago Blackhawks announced they've inked defenseman Louis Crevier to a two-year, $900,000 per-year contract. Although Louis Crevier was a restricted free agent, he is now contractually secure for the next couple of years.

Crevier, 24, had long-shot potential to ever play in the NHL after being selected in the seventh round, 188th overall, of the 2020 NHL Draft.

And to think, he's suited up in already 56 games in the NHL, 32 of which came last season, in which he received 17:17 of ice time per game and recorded four points (three goals, one assist).

Sporting a 6-foot-8, 228-pound frame, Crevier adds monster size to the Blackhawks' backline and has held up in a depth role. He's logged most of his minutes between the lower pairings and has been very stable when called upon.

Riding a wave of high-ceiling blueline prospects through the system, however, Crevier must establish himself more in order to earn a larger role in Chicago's future.

For the moment, the new deal allows him the opportunity to continue testing himself and potentially make himself more than a temporary fit.

It's a no-risk signing for the Blackhawks and a pleasant return for a late pick that continues to demonstrate he's more than he was touted to be. Chicago is poised to take a big step forward next season as Connor Bedard and others continue to mature.
