Corey Perry went down with a mysterious injury on Friday, but now the Kings have announced the veteran forward will miss 6-8 weeks after surgery.
The Los Angeles Kings were very busy this off-season, adding several key veterans to a team in desperate need of change, but on Friday, terrible news came out of Kings training camp.
Just days before camp was officially set to start, Insiders revealed that veteran forward and key off-season pickup Corey Perry went down with an injury, although the exact injury and severity of it were
shrouded in mystery.
Perry officially set to miss 6-8 weeks after undergoing surgery
Now however, we have some clarity, as the Kings announced early this morning that Perry underwent successful knee surgery, and as a result, he's expected to miss between 6 and 8 weeks to completely recover from the injury.
It's unclear exactly what happened on the ice that led to Perry's injury, as details likely won't be released by the Kings, but that's a major blow for a team that were so happy to steal away Perry from the rival Oilers this off-season.
Thankfully though, this news is much better than some had expected, with Perry likely to be back by mid-November at the worst, which gives him plenty of time to get to 100% ahead of a critical season in Los Angeles.
Ultimately, things could have been much worse for the Kings, but given that Perry is a new arrival, an injury of any kind won't help his start with the team, so now we'll wait to see if this hampers the start of his season when he's eventually healthy and ready to go.
