Los Angeles Kings captain Anze Kopitar has officially announced that the upcoming season is going to be his last in the NHL.
Los Angeles Kings captain Anze Kopitar is one of the best players in team history, and fans of the Kings are going to have one last chance to see him suit up on the ice in person.
Earlier today at the start of training camp, Kopitar announced that the 2025-26 season is going to be his last in the NHL.
It confirms what Kopitar recently said when he hinted that it could be his last year.
If I said I didn't think about it, I'd be lying for sure. I've been thinking about it, not everything is quite decided yet, but this could be my last season in the NHL, yes.
I mean, it's bittersweet. Hockey is something I've known all of my life, it's my 1st love and it's been a big part of my life and my family's life, but at the same time, my kids will be 11 and 9 years old. It's the time where they need their dad around a lot more than I would be playing hockey.

Kopitar's 1,278 points (440G, 838A) are 2nd overall in team scoring, and his 1,454 games in a Kings sweater are the most in team history. Not only is he 30 points away from breaking the record of Marcel Dionne, but he's also 3rd all time in Kings history in goals behind Dionne and Robitaille.
Anze Kopitar doesn't believe he's the best Kings player
Even though he's already well established as one of the best players to ever wear a Kings sweater, Kopitar remains humble and said that he doesn't feel he's worthy of that title.
It's really hard for me to sit here and say I'm the greatest King. That's just not my personality. Far from it. There's been great Kings in this organization, with Marcel, Luc, Dave [Taylor], Wayne, Blakey [Rob Blake]. The list can go on for a little bit. Brownie. Individually, yes, but it's about collective wins.
Kopitar has won 2 Stanley Cups with the Kings, along with 2 Selke Trophies as the NHL's best defensive forward, the only player in team history to take home the award.
