NHL DoPS confirms Brad Marchand's suspension fate after elbow last night
The NHL Department of Player Safety has confirmed their decision regarding Brad Marchand's dangerous elbow to the head of Montreal Canadiens defenseman Mike Matheson in last night's game in Florida.
There was more controversy involving Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand in last night's game against the divisional foe Montreal Canadiens, as he elbowed defenseman Mike Matheson in the head.
Matheson was already in a vulnerable position in the corner when Marchand came flying in, and there were many who were anticipating a suspension.
But the NHL Department of Player Safety is not expected to pursue any discipline against Marchand, not even a fine.
Per NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman, the NHL thought that the penalty called on the ice was sufficient enough.
No hearing for Brad Marchand regarding OT roughing penalty on Mike Matheson
I admit I'm surprised, I thought there would be for the contact to the head.
My suspicions on why it won't be a suspension:
*NHL felt it was a penalty on the ice, that's it
*Marchand elbow low and tucked; Matheson low to ice - Elliotte Friedman

NHL Fans Think That The League Won't Suspend Marchand Because Of The Upcoming Winter Classic
The next game for the Panthers happens to be the Winter Classic at loanDepot park in Miami, home of the MLB's Miami Marlins.
After Friedman announced that there would be no suspension for Marchand, many people said they think it's because the next Panthers game happens to be the NHL's premier annual event.
So far in his first full year in a Panthers sweater, Marchand has 45 points (23G, 22A).
