The Florida Panthers have struggled for momentum early in the season, and now, reports have emerged that they're targeting an upgrade defensively.
After back-to-back Stanley Cups, hopes were obviously high for the Florida Panthers heading into the 2025/26 campaign, with the team having the confidence that they'll once again be contending this season.
However, due to injury issues, the team are just 5-5-0 early in the season, with the team managing to score just 2.50 goals a game, ranking them 29th in the entire National Hockey League.
Panthers Seeking An Upgrade On Defense
On the other side, the team rank in the top half of the league in GAA at 2.80, but now, reports have emerged from David Dwork that the team are looking to upgrade on the blue line as they clearly look to double down on one of their biggest strengths.
Last season, the Panthers were aggressive in looking to upgrade their team, adding
Seth Jones from the Chicago Blackhawks in a
massive trade, and while they have a top four of Forsling-Ekblad and Mikkola-Jones, it appears as though they aren't satisfied.
Not being satisfied is one of the reasons this team has been to three straight Cup Finals and won two in a row, and while it's unclear just who they're targeting, Bill Zito has always been proactive in upgrading the team since he's taken over as General Manager.
Perhaps it's the third pairing where they would like an upgrade, and in recent years, the team have always gotten who they wanted, so if these reports prove to be true, don't be shocked to see the Panthers make a move in the coming weeks.
