Thomas Harley is a key piece of the Dallas Stars future, and now, the team have made history by inking him to a massive eight-year extension.
The Dallas Stars were looking towards a rebuild, but in one big draft, they managed to turn their entire franchise around, and alongside the young core of
Wyatt Johnston,
Jake Oettinger and
Miro Heiskanen, they've also added some other amazing pieces.
One of those players is Thomas Harley, who has emerged as the Stars clear No. 2 defenseman, making his debut for Team Canada at the Four Nations Face Off earlier in 2025.
Stars Sign Thomas Harley To Massive Extension
Now, at just 24-years of age, the Stars have committed to the young defenseman early, as Elliotte Friedman is reporting that they are signing him to an
eight-year deal worth $10.5 million per season.
This comes on the back of a career year for Harley when he posted 16 goals and 50 points in 78 games played, and as one of the best two-way defenseman in the NHL, this move makes perfect sense for the future of the organization.
Whether looking at his play on the ice or the advanced numbers behind it, this deal could age very well for both the team and the player, and with the salary cap rising, making this move now was a smart one for the Stars.
On top of that, Harley is now the highest paid defenseman in the history of the Dallas Stars organization, and while Miro Heiskanen may end up topping that one day, this is a great deal for both parties as the Stars look to continue building towards a Stanley Cup.
