Florida Panthers Announce the Worst Possible News For Aleksander Barkov
The Panthers have announced that Aleksander Barkov is going to miss the entire season and possibly longer after he was hurt in practice earlier in the week.
The Stanley Cup defense for the Florida Panthers has already gotten off to a rocky start because of
Matthew Tkachuk's summer surgery that will keep him off the ice for the 1st several months, and now they were just dealt another major blow.
Captain Aleksander Barkov is going to miss the entire year and maybe even longer, as it was revealed he's going to miss at least 7-9 months after hurting both his ACL and MCL.
Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov suffered injuries to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and his medial collateral ligament (MCL) at yesterday's practice.
Today, he underwent successful surgery by Dr. John Uribe at Baptist Health Doctors Hospital. He will be re-evaluated on an ongoing basis. The expected recovery timeline for these injuries is 7-9 months.
The earliest this means that Barkov will be able to potentially return to gameplay is in April.
Aleksander Barkov is going to miss likely all of the season
Barkov was hurt during practice yesterday and was seen being unable to get back up onto his skates, and he needed help from his teammates to make it off the ice.
Immediately, fears grew that the injury could be serious and potentially keep him off the ice for an extended amount of time, which has now been confirmed.
Barkov has led the Panthers to consecutive Stanley Cups and is one of the best defensive forwards in the entire NHL; his absence is a major blow to Florida's chances at a coveted 3-peat of the Stanley Cup.
Last year, Barkov had 71 points (20G, 51A). He was taken by the Panthers with the 2nd overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and played his entire career in a Panthers sweater.
