After a fantastic NHL career wrapped up this summer, Tyson Barrie is back in hockey after being announced in an intriguing new role with the Canucks.
Last season, Tyson Barrie signed a PTO with the Calgary Flames, eventually earning his way onto their roster and playing in a few games with the team, the fifth team in his National Hockey League career.
However, at 34-years old, Barrie called it quits this off-season,
officially announcing his retirement from the NHL, with many wondering what the veteran blue liner would pivot to now that his playing days are over.
Barrie signs on in new role with Sportsnet
Just weeks after the announcement, Barrie has revealed his next venture, as he has officially signed on with Sportsnet as a regional broadcaster, as he is set to appear on home broadcasts for the Vancouver Canucks.
At this point, it's unclear what role Barrie will play with Canucks home games, but given the insight and expertise he gained throughout his career on the ice, he could provide some very valuable insights on these players and teams for the Canucks broadcasts.
Not only that, but he played for many teams throughout the course of his career, meaning that he's built up great relationships and knowledge of many players, all things that will help him now he moves into the broadcast side of things.
On top of all of this, Barrie grew up on Vancouver Island, meaning he's got plenty of love for the Canucks, and with the team looking to bounce back from a tough 2024/25 campaign, they'll have the insight and the personality of Barrie to help fans get through the new season as well.
