Oilers' Jack Roslovic Revealed to Have Lost Out on Nearly $10 Million This Summer
Jack Roslovic inked a deal with the Edmonton Oilers in recent days, but according to reports, he missed out on a much bigger deal this summer.
After spending the entire summer as a free agent, forward Jack Roslovic made the shock decision to sign with the Edmonton Oilers during their first game of the season against the rival Calgary Flames.
The deal is just for one season, with Stan Bowman noting the team needs production at even strength as a major reason why the organization decided to finally put pen to paper on a deal with Roslovic.
Roslovic Left Massive Deal on the Table Earlier This Summer
This wasn't the first time that Roslovic and the Oilers discussed a free agency deal however, as there were reports that the two parties discussed a deal, one that ultimately fell apart earlier in the off-season.
According to David Pagnotta on Hello Hockey, the deal earlier was likely three-years, $3 million annually, with the talented forward believing he could likely get a better deal elsewhere, and thus turning it down.
He had I think a 3 year offer on the table in the summer...from the Oilers, worth considerably more; I think it was in the $3m range; he thought he was getting a better deal somewhere else.
Clearly, that turned out to be a mistake for Roslovic, who ended up getting no term on his new deal as well as less money annually, and now, he goes into another season needing to earn a long-term deal in free agency in 2026.
With his talent around this group, there's a chance that Roslovic can put up a big season in 2025/26 and head into free agency with plenty of interest, but as of right now, it's hard to see this off-season as anything but a failure from Roslovic.
