The NHL and NHLPA announced regular season games in Munich and Cologne for 2027-28, marking the first time either city has hosted an NHL game.

Germany is no stranger to NHL hockey at this point, but two of its biggest cities are about to get their first taste of it.
The league and players' association confirmed the Boston Bruins will play two games in Munich, while the Edmonton Oilers head to Cologne for a pair of their own.
Munich and Cologne have never hosted an NHL game before, even though the league has run games in Germany going back to 2011, most recently with a Senators and Blackhawks matchup set for Düsseldorf this December.
The city picks were not random either.
JJ Peterka, who plays for Boston, is from Munich.
Leon Draisaitl was born and raised in Cologne.
Getting to suit up in front of hometown fans is the kind of moment most players only dream about, and now two of Germany's biggest hockey stars get to live it.

Why this matters for the league

This is part of a bigger push. The NHL has been steadily building its presence overseas, and Germany has become a priority given how much homegrown talent the country is producing right now.
Draisaitl became the first German player to hit 1,000 career points this past season, and Peterka has quietly turned into one of the most productive young forwards in the league.

What fans can expect

Ticket details and opponents have not been released yet, but expect those to drop sometime during the 2026-27 season.
Munich's SAP Garden and Cologne's Lanxess Arena will host the games, giving fans there a taste of the speed and intensity that made these two stars into the players they are today.
