The Edmonton Oilers fanbase was frustrated after a suspension to captain Connor McDavid, and now the organization has released an intriguing statement professing their disappointment at the NHL for suspending McDavid, despite many believing it was the right call.
This past weekend, both Connor McDavid and Tyler Myers were penalized for cross-checks to the face during the intense Pacific Division matchup between the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks.
As a result, both were levied three-game suspensions by the NHL, with some shocked by the decision and others glad that the NHL held the Oilers captain accountable for his actions.
However, for some reason, it appears those in Edmonton were shocked by the decision, and after major complaints from the fanbase and the media, the organization has now revealed this statement of shock and support for their captain.
The Oilers organization is disappointed and we share in our fans frustration over the three-game suspension of our captain Connor McDavid. We support him through the process and the organization and our fans look forward to having him back in the lineup vs. Seattle next week.
If the cross-check wasn't to the face, this situation likely wouldn't have unfolded like this in the slightest, but it was a clear illegal move from McDavid, who was struggling to defend himself against the much smaller Conor Garland.
While teammate Corey Perry has called for the NHL to better protect its stars, they took the correct stance to punish No. 97 for his actions, with the statement from the organization making absolutely no sense.
Sure, they can be frustrated that McDavid was punished, but at the end of the day it was the right call from the league, and now, the organization simply has to deal with it until he's back in the lineup.
