Connor McDavid speaks out on his controversial hit that went unpunished
Last Wednesday, in a game between the Edmonton Oilers and the Minnesota Wild, Connor McDavid had yet another great performance, tallying three points, including two goals.
Unfortunately, he was also responsible for injuring one of his opponents.
Johansson had to leave the game with an upper-body injury, but on the play, and even after reviewing it, referees decided to not give any consequences to McDavid.
After the game, Wild head coach John Hynes shared his thoughts, saying he wouldn't comment on McDavid's hit because he'd be even more angry about the situation:
"I don't even want to go down that road, because it will probably infuriate you more than it infuriates me right now. So I am just going to bypass that. Similar to the other game, not a good answer. Let me put it that way."
"What do you think happens? I understand the refs have a hard job, but that was chicken. I don't care that he's the best player in the world."
In a recent interview on TNT, McDavid opened up on the incident and came clean about his dirty hit.
He stated that it was "unfortunate", that it wasn't intentional, and hoped that he was alright:
"Look, it's unfortunate, and I hope he is okay, obviously not trying to hurt anybody out there, just try to go through there. Very unfortunate, and I hope he is alright."
It's not unusual to see star players getting preferential treatment from league authorities. Unfortunately, when other players get injured, it doesn't seem fair for everyone.
