Connor McDavid passes John Tavares on NHL all time points leaderboard
Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid has passed now-ex Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares in the NHL's all-time scoring race, and did so in far fewer games.
There's no denying that Edmonton Oilers superstar captain Connor McDavid is arguably the best player in the NHL right now, and he's had an incredible month that now has him officially in the lead of NHL scoring.
Speaking of NHL scoring, he's recently overtaken former Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares in the history of NHL scoring, and he's done it in nearly half the time.
McDavid had five assists in Edmonton's 5-1 win over the divisional foe Calgary Flames on Tuesday night, and moved to 60th place on the NHL's all-time scoring list with 1,149 points. He's also played in only 750 career games.
Tavares has 1,146 career points, and has played in 1,120 games with the New York Islanders and Maple Leafs.

During Tuesday's win, McDavid picked up multiple assists on the hat trick from fellow star teammate Leon Draisaitl, who marveled at what he's been able to do.
It tilts the ice. He's obviously feeling it. We've all seen it plenty of times in his career. The puck is following him right now. He's just too good right now. That's not fun to play against. - Leon Draisaitl
Right now, McDavid has 67 points (23G, 44A), and is on pace for 145 points, which would be his highest career output since reaching 153 points in 2022-23.
