An NHL analyst has proposed a trade between the Islanders and Oilers that sees the Oilers acquire goaltender Ilya Sorokin and finally solve their goaltending issues.
Oilers GM Stan Bowman made a bold choice during the summer by not making an upgrade to
his team's goaltending, which most fans and analysts thought he had to do to make
Connor McDavid want to stick around.
Even though he managed to re-sign McDavid to a 2 year deal with an extremely team-friendly AAV (average annual value) of $12.5 million, Edmonton's goaltending remains a major question mark.
NHL analysts at Heavy.com have
proposed a trade that sees the Oilers acquire goaltender Ilya Sorokin from the New York Islanders, and send
Stuart Skinner with an additional pair of players back to the Islanders in return.
Oilers Acquire:
Ilya Sorokin ($8.25 million)
Islanders Acquire:
Stuart Skinner ($2.6 million)
Brett Kulak ($2.75 million)
Adam Henrique ($3 million)
The Oilers would shed multiple salaries by sending them to the Islanders and open up more space to accommodate Sorokin.
Can the Oilers Acquire Ilya Sorokin From the Islanders?
Picking up Sorokin from the Islanders would be a major move for the Oilers, and would give them a bonafide starter in net.
Sorokin and the Islanders are off to a rough start this year, having lost all 3 games that they've played and are currently at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division.
Sorokin is signed through 2032 with an AAV of $8.25 million.
If the Islanders continue losing, they may see the need for major changes, and a trade of Sorokin would represent that.
