The Edmonton Oilers added a goaltender this off-season, but according to some reporters, they simply haven't made enough changes or improvements.
For two straight seasons, the Edmonton Oilers have fallen in the final series of the year, losing to the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals in seven and six games since 2024.
While the Panthers were utterly dominant, the Oilers had some weaknesses that were taken advantage of, with the biggest issue of all being their goaltending, as neither
Stuart Skinner nor
Calvin Pickard stood up and carried them to the Cup.
Latest Oilers Goalie Acquisition Doesn't Move the Needle Enough
Given that the Oilers gave up nothing to land Ingram, it's not expected that he'll play a big role, and now, analysts at the
Oil Rig have called out the team, stating that this acquisition alone isn't enough to help the team improve.
More likely than not, Ingram will be the teams third goaltender and work as depth moving forward, and if either Pickard or Skinner suffer an injury or need time in the AHL, he can step up and play a role.
Simpy put, if the Oilers see major struggles from either of their goaltenders, Ingram can give them insurance in the short-term, but if they want to be genuine contenders for the Stanley Cup, they'll need Skinner to take his game to the next level, or find a way to acquire a big name netminder elsewhere in the league.
