The Dallas Stars fell in the WCF again in 2025, and now, goaltender Jake Oettinger is motivated after being thrown under the bus by then coach Peter DeBoer.

Last season was yet another promising one for the Dallas Stars, but at the end of the season, they once again fell in the Western Conference to the rival Edmonton Oilers.
There were many reasons for their struggles, but down the stretch, the team simply couldn't get it done on either end, with Head Coach Peter DeBoer making some interesting moves that would end up leading to his departure from the team.
Following a do-or-die game that saw him pull Jake Oettinger after allowing a few early goals, he threw the netminder under the bus with his comments about Oettinger's play.
"I didn't blame it all on Jake, but the reality is, if you go back to last year's playoffs, he's lost six of seven games to Edmonton. And we give up two (goals) on two (shots) in an elimination game. It was partly to spark our team and wake them up, and partly knowing that (the) status quo had not been working. That's a pretty big sample size."

Oettinger addresses DeBoer's comments from last season

However, in the time since then, DeBoer has opened up on the situation, revealing that he should have made it clearer that he wasn't singling out Oettinger after pulling the talented goaltender.
But it wasn't just him. It was all of us. That's not one one guy, I should have made that clearer.
Now, ahead of the new season, Oettinger addresses those remarks from DeBoer, stating that he's happy his former Head Coach walked back his comments.
I'm glad he said what he said.

Whether that's Oettinger accepting that DeBoer wasn't blaming him solely for the loss or that's the talented goaltender using those comments as motivation, he's clearly aware of DeBoer's comments, and he's looking to get better after them heading into the new season.
