Dallas Stars Head Coach Reveals the Real Reason the Team Can't Beat the Oilers
The Dallas Stars fired Peter DeBoer after several post-season failures, and now his replacement Glen Gulutzan opened up on why his teams have struggled against Edmonton.
While the Dallas Stars have been a dominant regular season team over the past few years, they've failed to make it past the Edmonton Oilers, losing in the past two Western Conference Finals to their post-season rival.
After the 2025 failure, the team moved on from Peter DeBoer, and in his place, they hired former Calgary Flames and Stars Head Coach Glen Gulutzan.
Thankfully for Dallas, no one has a better understanding of why the Stars struggled in recent years than Gulutzan, who was behind the bench in Edmonton for their wins against Dallas.
When asked about the Stars failures in recent years by The Hockey News, Gulutzan opened up on how teams stifled the Stars offense, and under DeBoer, the team simply didn't have a good enough game plan to adapt when teams began to slow them down.
"Really, what I would like to do, and what did in Edmonton, was we were able to adapt and create offense against different defenses.
I wouldn't say we completely changed, but if we had a road trip and we are going to LA and then going to Vegas, we knew we wanted to do things differently in the O-zone."

Simply put, Gulutzan opened up on how the Oilers would change offensive gameplans if things weren't going perfectly or before heading into a series, but what he saw in Dallas was a team that failed to prepare like that, ultimately leading to their failures.
Now, he'll hope to turn things around as he takes over the reigns of one of the NHL's most talented teams, and if he can help the team translate that success to the post-season, there's a chance that they can finally make the Stanley Cup Finals run they've been waiting for.
