Pete DeBoer Fired by the Dallas Stars After Western Conference Finals Elimination
Peter DeBoer's future was uncertain after another flameout in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and now the Stars have made it official, firing the veteran coach.
The Dallas Stars went down in embarrassing fashion in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals, and after the way Head Coach Peter DeBoer conducted himself, many saw that his future in Dallas was up in the air.
After plenty of speculation following reports that he had lost the locker room due to the handling of
Jake Oettinger in and after Game 5, the Dallas Stars have now made DeBoer's future official.
With just one year remaining on his current deal, Dallas have officially parted ways with the veteran Head Coach, who took them to two straight Western Conference Finals, but unfortunately, he just couldn't get them over the hump, and throwing Oettinger under the bus was clearly the final straw.
In Dallas, DeBoer has a 148-69-29 overall record, and while that itself isn't cause for firing, given the way that he handled their latest loss and the failure to take this team to their full potential, this move makes sense for the Stars.
Now, with the team still having Stanley Cup aspirations in 2025/26 and beyond, they'll need to make a very important hire for the role moving forward, and with so many Head Coaches hired already this summer, it's safe to say that there aren't many options remaining out there for GM Jim Nill and the Stars front office.
Ultimately, DeBoer may be a great coach, but he simply lost the room, and when that happens, the Stars had no choice but to move on, and with rumours around
Jason Robertson swirling, this team could look incredibly different by next season.
