The Avalanche have been awaiting Mackenzie Blackwood's return in 2025/26, and now, they've waived veteran Trent Miner to make that happen.

The Colorado Avalanche came into the 2025/26 campaign with very high hopes, and early on in the season, they've been showing exactly why, posting a record of 5-1-4 through their first 10 games.
They've done so despite the absence of Mackenzie Blackwood, as the star goaltender the team acquired a year ago is set to return to the lineup for Colorado on Tuesday night.

Trent Miner Officially Hits The Waiver Wire

However, that means the team need to make a corresponding move, and on Tuesday that was announced by Elliotte Friedman, who revealed that depth goalie Trent Miner has been waived after making two starts for the Avalanche this season.
The 24-year old posted a .909 save percentage and a 2.12 GAA in that time, and after picking him up in the seventh round of the 2019 NHL Draft, it appears as though the team may have found themselves a fantastic depth piece behind Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood.
Last season with the Colorado Eagles in the American Hockey League, Miner went 22-10-6 in 38 games started with a 2.12 GAA and a .918 save percentage, so while his path to the NHL is blocked for right now, he appears to have a bright future.
As for waivers, Miner may not be a player that's ready for full-time NHL action, but if a team out there wants a talented 24-year old that's shown he may be a genuine backup at the NHL level one day, now is the time to potentially pick one up for free.
