The Colorado Avalanche have been on fire early in 2025/26, and now they've made two surprising moves by promoting two intriguing prospects from the AHL.
This season has been a fantastic one for the Colorado Avalanche thus far, with the team posting a 5-0-3 record to start the season, picking up a point in all eight games they've played thus far.
Despite question marks over their depth, the Avalanche have proven time and time again that with their stars leading the way, the rest of the lineup can produce as well, and heading into the weekend, they had two open spots on the roster.
Colorado Recall Two Intriguing Players From the American Hockey League
Now, the team have officially announced that
they've recalled the duo of
Jack Ahcan and
Daniil Gushchin from the AHL's Colorado Eagles, and with the two open roster spots, there's no need for any corresponding moves.
The more intriguing of these two names is winger Gushchin, with the 23-year old off to a hot start in the AHL this year, posting 6 goals and 7 points in five games after posting 51 points in 58 games played in the AHL a season ago.
At 5-foot-8, there's question marks over whether he can translate that success to the NHL, but with roles in their bottom-six up for grabs, there's a chance he can make a genuine push this season with the Avalanche.
Then, there's 28-year old veteran defenseman Ahcan, who has one goal and 5 points in 5 games played this season, and with the team needing depth on their blue line, he's a very solid option for this team moving forward.
Ultimately, neither player is likely to get a significant role with the Avalanche, but given that they've got a back-to-back on the road coming up, this added depth is always nice, and if either can impress, there's a chance that they can push for a role on this team.
