Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar is fiercely defending Nathan MacKinnon after a wild collision left Oilers goaltender Connor Ingram injured.

The superstar center was hit with a five-minute major and a game misconduct for goaltender interference late in Tuesday's heated matchup.
Ingram stayed down in the crease for several tense moments before trainers helped him off the ice. Losing a starting netminder is a worst-case scenario for an Edmonton squad fighting for every point in the standings.
He has been a stabilizing force between the pipes, posting a solid .912 SV% while facing high shot volumes this season.
But if anyone expected remorse from the Colorado locker room, they were sorely mistaken. Bednar took the podium postgame and delivered one of the most abrasive quotes of the year.
Again, I really don't give a crap if the goalie is hurt

Jared Bednar Shifts The Blame on the Edmonton Oilers

Bednar continued, completely absolving his franchise player of any wrongdoing.
That's on their D-man, not our guy
The Colorado bench boss insists that Edmonton's defensive structure collapsed and pushed the attacker directly into the blue paint.
MacKinnon plays the game at blinding speed and rarely shies away from driving hard to the net. With 97 points already in the bank this year, he is single-handedly carrying the offense on most nights.
You cannot expect a player logging over 21 minutes of ice time per game to suddenly hit the brakes when a defender is riding his back.
The Oilers clearly saw the sequence differently and took immediate exception to the contact. They felt the star forward recklessly barreled through the crease without making an effort to avoid their goaltender.
Scrums erupted all over the ice as Edmonton players rushed to defend their fallen crease general.
The Department of Player Safety will undoubtedly review the tape to determine if supplemental discipline is required. A suspension would be devastating for an Avalanche team desperately chasing home-ice advantage.
We will see if the league agrees with the coach or punishes the superstar.
