NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman is revealing more information on the last minute trade that sent Nazem Kadri back to the Colorado Avalanche from the Calgary Flames.

Once again, Nazem Kadri is a member of the Colorado Avalanche, for whom he played several years and won a Stanley Cup in 2022. He then signed a seven year contract with the Calgary Flames that summer with an AAV (average annual value) of $7 million.
Kadri has not played a single playoff game since Game 6 of the 2022 Stanley Cup Final, as the Flames haven't gotten to the playoffs since the same year.
But that will change this year, as the Avalanche are the first overall team in the NHL.
NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman is now revealing some additional details about the trade that sent Kadri from Calgary to Colorado, getting the Flames to retain 20% of the contract.
32 Thoughts (Mar 9): More on the Kadri to COL trade. Elliotte says he got some push back that after the deal fell through earlier in the week that there was hard feelings. COL felt they could still make the Kadri trade after they traded for Nic Roy. Retention had to go up from the original 15% to 20% after Roy deal and the return CGY got was changed slightly in their favour for extra retention.
Kadri was welcomed back by Avalanche fans, who gave him a standing ovation in his first game back in an Avalanche sweater at Ball Arena.

Nazem Kadri Is Thrilled To Be Back With The Avalanche

Kadri, who won a Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022, said that he loves being a member of the team again.
That's what I was searching for. And there's some great players on this team, and like I said, wherever I slot in, I'm going to be excited to be there, and I just can't wait to play with some world-class players. - Nazem Kadri

He has 42 points (12G, 30A) in 62 games this year.
