Laurent Brossoit has spent all of 2025/26 in the AHL, and now he's being dealt to the San Jose Sharks for a former first-round draft pick.

The Chicago Blackhawks found their starting goaltender of the future in Spencer Knight, and with Arvid Soderblom as a backup, it's safe to say that their goaltending room is full for now.
That has meant that veteran Laurent Brossoit has spent the entire season thus far in the American Hockey League, posting a 3.38 GAA and a .901 save percentage through six games with the Rockford Ice Hogs.

Now however, he's got a new home in the National Hockey League, with Elliotte Friedman breaking the news of a trade to the San Jose Sharks, likely giving him the chance to compete for the role as a backup to breakout star Yaroslav Askarov.
In return for Brossoit as well as Nolan Allan and a 2028 seventh-round draft pick, the Blackhawks will be receiving Jake Furlong and a 2028 fourth-round pick, as well as the contract of veteran Ryan Ellis, who has not appeared in the NHL since 2021/22.
On paper, this is a smart move for the Sharks, as they've dealt with some injury issues in net this season, and if Askarov gets hurt, giving the team Brossoit and Nedeljkovic is a great insurance plan for a suddenly exciting team in the Pacific Division.
Only time will tell if Brossoit will get a better shot at playing in the NHL this season with San Jose than he did with Chicago, but with 140 NHL games under his belt, it's easy to see why the Sharks made this move.
