Noah Philp was recently acquired by the Hurricanes, but just a few weeks later, the former Oiler has officially been placed on waivers by Carolina.

The Carolina Hurricanes have one of the deepest and most impressive rosters in the entire National Hockey League, and in 2025/26, it appears as though this is a team ready to finally contend for a Stanley Cup.
Recently, they made an addition to this roster as they added former Edmonton Oilers forward Noah Philp via a waivers claim, with the Hurricanes betting on the upside of the 27-year old.

Philp placed on waivers for a second time this season

As announced by top NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the Hurricanes have now placed him on waivers just a few weeks after acquiring him, with the formerly un-drafted forward appearing in just two games for the team.
In that time, Philp struggled to make an impact, and while the team are no doubt hoping he passes through waivers and gets sent to the AHL, given that there was interest in him when he was claimed the first time, there's a chance that another team looks to bring him in.
One of those teams that could be interested are the Oilers, who liked Philp as an AHL/depth option for the organization, and while he has just 5 points in 32 career NHL games, it's easy to see what teams like about him given his size.
Ultimately, Philp isn't going to be an NHL regular moving forward given his major limitations, and while there could be interest in him, he's likely going to remain a fringe player that primarily plays in the AHL moving forward.
