Jesper Fast recently retired after dealing with a neck injury, and now, the Carolina Hurricanes have quickly hired him as a development coach.

After missing the 2024/25 campaign with a neck injury, many feared for the future of 33-year old Jesper Fast, and this off-season, he made a crucial decision on his future in hockey.
With a career that spanned 700 games in the NHL with the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes, the former sixth-round pick officially announced his retirement from the National Hockey League following a very successful career.

Hurricanes quickly hire Fast in a role as development coach

The Swedish winger didn't waste time moving onto the next phase of his career however, as just over two months post retirement, the Hurricanes have officially brought him on board as a player development coach.
At 33-years of age, Fast has played in over 900 professional games, and this combination of youth and experience makes him a perfect fit for the role of player development, especially given the relationship he's built with many players of the future in Carolina.
In his career, Fast ended up with 91 goals and 248 points in 703 games played with the Rangers and Hurricanes, and while his playing career didn't end the way he would have dreamed, there's always going to be roles for people like that in the sport.
Ultimately, Fast was able to turn a heartbreaking situation and the end to his hockey dreams into a positive role for the future, and given all of the positive traits he showed throughout his hockey career, the hope is that he can have a long, successful stint as a coach in hockey.
