Rasmus Andersson's future has been a big talking point this off-season, and now his latest comments have revealed that he's set to leave Calgary soon.

The Calgary Flames have been among the rumours all off-season long in the NHL, with the main culprit being veteran defenseman Rasmus Andersson, whose contract runs out at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
For the most part, the expectation is that Andersson will be moved by the Flames at some point between now and the 2026 trade deadline, but so far there's been little beyond speculation to hint at exactly when a deal can get done.

Andersson's Rejection of a Huge Offer Highlights Deep Personal and Professional Divide

In a recent interview with Expressen in Sweden, Andersson opened up on the entire situation, noting that he was given a breathtaking offer by the team, but is now likely to depart Calgary for several reasons.
Rasmus Andersson was offered a contract 'that would take your breath away.' Yet he chose to ignore it for the sake of his family - and is now met with silence from his club, the Calgary Flames. 'No one has heard from me in a month and a half.'
Reportedly, Andersson was offered a deal 'that would take your breath away', and after the Flames offered big money to Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin before trading them, this is no surprise.
Andersson struggled in 2024/25, but before that he's been stellar and consistent, and with the front office likely looking to bring him back, there was a potential for this offer to be above Mackenzie Weegar's AAV of $6.5 million, with some speculating that it could be as high as $8 million per season.

Andersson's Situation Reflects Rising Tensions and Signals a Likely Trade Ahead

For many in Calgary, this has been a long time coming, as the talk around Andersson has gotten rather toxic online, and after rumours connected him to Vegas, he clearly saw what was happening online and did not appreciate it.
Ultimately, it's likely best for both parties if Andersson is moved on before the 2025/26 season, and now, it's more likely than not that a trade is coming, and with things getting personal, it could potentially get ugly in the coming weeks.
