That had fans debating intriguing topics all season long, with the most heated of all being the future of defenseman Rasmus Andersson, who has blossomed into a genuine top-four defenseman in Calgary, but with a potentially long-term extension looming, many see him as a key trade piece.
That talk has now only intensified after the latest reports from reporter Pat Steinberg, who revealed that the team are far apart in contract extensions, with Andersson targeting $9 million AAV over eight years, while the Flames would prefer $7 million a year over six seasons.
This may end up leading to a blockbuster trade over the summer, and with many teams in need of a star right shot defenseman with his offensive abilities, there should be plenty of interest in the 28-year old over the off-season.
Unfortunately, it was a down year for No. 4, who had 11 goals and 38 points in 81 games, playing the final 12 on a broken leg, but with a -38 on the season, he showed that his play could already be slipping.
For now though, he remains a valuable asset, and while there may be a chance that the two parties look to meet in the middle over the summer, right now the likeliest outcome is a trade at or before the 2025 NHL Draft.
