Rasmus Dahlin gets ejected for a violent hit during World Championship
2018 1st overall pick Rasmus Dahlin was ejected today while representing Team Sweden at the IIHF World Championship for a high hit on Latvian forward Haralds Egle.
The 2024 IIHF World Championship has been nothing short of entertaining. Boasting talent from all over the world including NHL stars, the tournament is some of the best hockey we will get to watch outside of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Today, Swedish defenseman and NHL superstar for the Buffalo Sabres Rasmus Dahlin laid a dangerous and high hit on Latvian forward Haralds Egle. As a result of this hit, Dahlin was ejected.
Rasmus Dahlin has been ejected from this game after catching Haralds Egle in the head.
Egle is a 28-year-old forward who has bounced around the world in pursuit of his NHL dream. However, to this date he has fallen short with the closest being him playing for the Manitoba Moose of the AHL, the Winnipeg Jets affiliate, from 2021-22.
Dahlin on the other hand has been a prodigy since before he was drafted and was the consensus first overall pick in the 2018 draft. Since being selected first, Dahlin has been one of the best defensemen in the world posting his best season in 2022-23 with 73 points in 78 games.
It is unknown if Dahlin will be suspended for this hit but this is certainly one of the more dangerous plays we have seen lately.
