Elliotte Friedman shares the truth behind Rasmus Dahlin's alleged trade request

The Buffalo Sabres moved Dylan Cozens at the trade deadline, and with speculation running rampant around defenseman Bowen Byram, the future of every player in Buffalo has been up in the air.

That includes Rasmus Dahlin as well, with reports emerging after the trade deadline that the captain has potentially requested a trade out of Buffalo, even with the team confirming that wasn't the case on social media.

On the latest edition of the 32 Thoughts podcast, Elliotte Friedman has now revealed how things played out behind the scenes, revealing a meeting between Dahlin and GM Kevyn Adams, although he believes things were smoothed out in that meeting.

Given that the immediate future of the team looks terrible however, it's unclear whether or not his long-term future is set, but for now, things have been smoothed over in Buffalo, with their captain set to remain for the near future at least.

Around Dahlin, the team still have the likes of Tage Thompson, Byram, Owen Power, Alex Tuch and many other solid players that can lead them into a successful future, but with the way things have gone in 2024/25, absolutely nobody knows what's coming.

For now though, Dahlin appears to have committed to the Sabres, and with a contract that pays him $11 million per season until the end of 2031-32, we may be seeing a key piece of the Sabres committing to the team for the long-term, with the hopes of bringing this young core back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
