Canadiens attempting to trade for 50-goal scorer Tage Thompson per new report
Tage Thompson has been a star for the Buffalo Sabres, and while the team aren't actively shopping him, the Montreal Canadiens are in active pursuit.
The Buffalo Sabres may have some exciting young talents, but after years and years of rebuilding, this is a team that still feels no closer to contending for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
While they've got a solid core led by Rasmus Dahlin and Tage Thompson, the immediate future in Buffalo still seems fairly bleak after they have gotten off to a 5-6-4 start through their first 15 games, with their captain recently stepping away from hockey.
Montreal interested in Tage Thompson
Now, a report from RG Media's Marco D'Amico has revealed that the Montreal Canadiens are highly interested in Tage Thompson, as they believe the addition of Thompson could turn this team from playoff threat into a genuine Stanley Cup contender moving forward.
In three of the past four years, Thompson has posted 38 or more goals, with a career high of 47, and with 6 goals and 12 points across 15 games this season, he's once again showing why he's perhaps the most exciting player the Sabres have had in decades.
In Montreal, Thompson would be a perfect fit alongside the core of Lane Hutson, Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield and Ivan Demidov, and if they were somehow able to acquire him,
Currently, D'Amico does however, note that the Sabres aren't actively shopping anyone and won't make a move soon, but if the team continue to struggle and the offer for Thompson is big enough, the Canadiens would be the perfect team to swoop in and add another young star to their roster.
