Jeremy Swayman Snaps At Bruins Bench During Blowout Loss

Jeremy Swayman lost his cool and had words for Marco Sturm and the bench after being pulled in an ugly 6-1 defeat to the Sabres.
The frustration finally boiled over at TD Garden on Sunday afternoon. The entire arena fell silent as Buffalo picked apart the home team.
The Sabres completely dominated the ice from the opening puck drop. Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch set the tone early with relentless pressure.
Boston found themselves down 4-0 before the first intermission even hit. It was the first time in franchise history they surrendered a four-goal lead that early in a playoff matchup.
The blue line collapsed under the heavy forecheck. Boston defensemen turned the puck over repeatedly instead of making the simple play.
Swayman made 22 saves but was constantly left out to dry by terrible defensive coverage. He faced odd-man rushes all afternoon while his teammates puck-watched.
With 13 minutes left in the third period, the coaching staff finally made the goaltending change. It was a mercy pull, but the damage was already done.
Swayman skated off the ice and delivered a heated message directly to his teammates. He stopped in front of Joonas Korpisalo and the rest of the squad before heading down the tunnel.
You simply can't blame the goaltender for this massive failure. He essentially played alone out there while the skaters in front of him completely abandoned their structure.
The defense surrendered 19 shots in the first period alone and failed to generate any transition game. The lack of offensive output and inability to clear the zone was shocking.
Boston is now staring at a 3-1 series deficit and looking completely outplayed. Lindy Ruff has his Buffalo squad flying, while the Bruins look stuck in the mud.
The locker room needs to find some answers immediately before they face elimination. The veterans must step up and hold the young guys accountable.
They need solid execution and crisp passing, otherwise this postseason run ends on Tuesday. This team built an identity on defensive responsibility, and right now, that identity is completely missing.
The top line was held scoreless and struggled to contain the Buffalo power play. Every single special teams unit needs a massive overhaul before the next game.
The effort level right now is unacceptable for a franchise with Stanley Cup aspirations. Swayman has every right to demand more from the guys wearing the spoked B.
