Tom Wilson dropped the gloves in Team Canada's dominant win over France, and while he faces a potential suspension, it's not an automatic decision.

Team Canada is officially the winner of Group A in the 2026 Olympics following a dominant 10-2 victory over France on Sunday, one that saw them go through the group stages undefeated.
Throughout their three games, Canada looked downright unstoppable, and with everyone on the team chipping in elite play and physicality, it's easy to see why they believe themselves gold medal favourites in the tournament.

Tom Wilson faces suspension for fighting

However, it wasn't the most clean victory over France, as Washington Capitals enforcer Tom Wilson dropped the gloves in the game, capping off an incredible performance for No. 43, one that also included a goal and an assist.
As we know, a fight in the Olympics is cause for an automatic ejection, and while it's not an automatic one-game suspension, Wilson may now face further discipline at the hands of the IIHF, according to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman.
In the NHL, most fights don't result in an ejection, but under IIHF rules, it does, and while there's a chance that he may face a suspension of one game, that's up to the IIHF to make that call.
Ultimately, with the depth that Canada have, even without Wilson there would be confidence, but if he avoids a suspension and they are at 100% heading into the knockout stages, this team is going to be a force to be reckoned with as they look for another gold medal in best-on-best play.
