We found out earlier this morning that Sidney Crosby would not play in the Olympics gold medal game against Team USA.

Team Canada released their official lines, and Crosby was notably missing — with the team going with identical lines to their last game.
It came as somewhat of a surprise, after rumours yesterday suggested he would find a way on the ice.
We now know, however, that the decision was none other than Crosby’s; who didn’t believe he could play well enough to give Team Canada an edge.
Some context:
"Tried everything" to allow him to play
There was optimism yesterday
Ultimately, he felt he couldn't be enough of a factor -- Canada needed all 13 forwards and Crosby didn't want to go if he couldn't be effective enough for the team to win

Total bummer
A fan posted a video of Crosby, alongside the rest of Team Canada, last night in the Olympic Village.
Crosby had a visible limp, which was the first sign that he may not be able to play today.
There is no doubt that Crosby is a legend; with two Olympic golds already under his belt, but knowing how much of a competitor he is, this decision must’ve been very difficult.
However, it shows the true of essence of a captain; putting his team first, no matter what.
Would we expect anything less from Sidney Crosby?
More to come.
