Team USA makes last-minute lineup change ahead of crucial game against Germany
Team USA are looking to qualify at the top of Group C in the 2026 Olympics, and now, they've officially inserted Clayton Keller into their lineup ahead of game 3.
Team USA came into the 2026 Olympic Games with hopes of avenging their Four Nations Face Off defeat, and through two games, they're currently sitting atop Group C with a 2-0 record.
In that time, they've picked up wins over Denmark and Latvia, and on Sunday, they play their group stage finale against the surprisingly tough Germany team who sit at 1-1 in the tournament.
Clayton Keller inserted into the USA lineup
Ahead of their matchup with Germany, the team are looking to spark their offense, as they have made one major change to the lineup, inserting Utah Mammoth captain Clayton Keller into the lineup in place of Winnipeg Jets star winger Kyle Connor.
Going back to that tournament in 2025, Connor failed to produce at a very high level, and given what Keller has done in the NHL over the past few seasons, many believed that this is how the United States should have began their Olympics.
Even without Keller in the lineup, this team has produced 11 goals through two games, and while Germany is a step up in competition, they've been steadily building momentum, with the team believing they're a genuine threat in this tournament.
Only time will tell if Keller is the better fit for this roster or if they will go back to Connor after their game with Germany, but for now, it's the right moved for the United States team to make.
