Olympics committee makes immediate ruling on Tom Wilson after dropping the gloves against France
Tom Wilson faced a potential suspension for a fight against France, but now, the Olympic Committee have cleared both he and his opponent.
Team Canada breezed through the group stage of the 2026 Olympic Games, and on Sunday, they capped off a dominant start to the tournament with a 10-2 victory over a courageous Team France.
While it was Canada that dominated, France showed plenty of fight, with Capitals enforcer Tom Wilson having to drop the gloves at one point, capping off what was a fantastic game for No. 43.
However, given that a fight is an automatic ejection in the Olympics, there were fears that the Olympic Committee and the IIHF could come down hard on him and hand out some supplemental discipline.
Wilson cleared for Quarterfinals action
Just minutes after the game concluded however, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman followed up that speculation with the official announcement that both Wilson and his opponent, Pierre Crinon have been cleared of any more discipline and are free to play in their teams next game.
That's huge news, especially for Canada, as Wilson has been a fantastic compliment to Connor McDavid and Macklin Celebrini on their top line, forming one of the most well-rounded and dominant lines at the tournament.
While Canada now wait to find out their opponent, given how well every team has played in this tournament, whoever they have to face won't be a walk over, and with the team clearly focused on a gold medal, having Wilson available for the rest of the tournament is key to their hopes of living up to expectations.
