The Canadian lineup will look different for the Gold Medal game against the United States in Milan.
Head coach Jon Cooper confirmed that defenseman Josh Morrissey will not play in Sunday’s final. Insider Elliotte Friedman reported the update after Team Canada’s morning skate, clarifying his status ahead of puck drop.
Losing Morrissey is not insignificant, especially in a championship setting. However, Canada’s blue line remains deep and experienced.
With Cale Makar leading the defensive group and capable of handling heavy minutes in all situations, the coaching staff still has strong options to rely on.
The defensive structure that has carried Canada through the tournament will need to hold firm against a skilled American attack.
Sidney Crosby availability remains the primary focus
The biggest question remains Sidney Crosby’s status.
The captain skated again this morning but is still considered a game-time decision. His availability could dramatically shape Canada’s forward combinations and special teams deployment.
Sidney Crosby skated today. There’s a chance he plays tomorrow. “Game-time decision.”

Crosby’s experience in high-pressure moments is difficult to replicate. If he cannot play, additional responsibility will fall on the leadership group and top centres to manage key draws and offensive situations.
The United States enters the final with speed and momentum, setting up a clash between two elite teams.
With Olympic gold on the line, every lineup decision carries major weight.
