Team Canada fell to the US in the gold medal game at the 2026 Olympics, but afterwards, Marie-Philip Poulin was disrespected in a major way.

Coming into the 2026 Olympic Games, the United States women's team were seen as a heavy favourite, but given Canada's experience, they were not to be discounted heading into the games.
Unsurprisingly, it came down to these two teams in the Gold Medal game, and after Hilary Knight tied the game late, it was Megan Keller that capped off the comeback for the USA as they picked up the Gold Medal.

Officials disrespect Marie-Philip Poulin after heartbreaking loss

After the loss, 'Captain Clutch' Marie-Philip Poulin attempted to address the crowd after taking home silver, but according to reports, she was told just moments before that she was not allowed to address the fans in attendance in her native language of French.
She was refused the right to speak French by the Olympic staff in charge of the podium. No, this isn't a joke: Luc Gélinas spoke about it this morning on the radio (CIHO-FM) and explained it clearly, saying that it's the ultimate insult for Poulin.
As of right now, it's very unclear why this decision was made, as Poulin is clearly much more comfortable speaking French than English, and with plenty of supporters from Canada making the trip, there were many fans there that would have understood her message.
There's a major difference between encouraging a player to speak English instead of French than there is telling her she is now allowed, and given how comfortable she is with French, this was a major slap in the face to Canada's captain.
Ultimately, this is one of the greatest players in the history of the Olympic Games, and for her to be silenced like this was incredibly disrespectful and unnecessary, and given what that moment meant to her, the officials should be ashamed of the way they handled this.
