Czech head coach Radim Rulik blasted the referees for what he felt was an inconsistent performance after his team lost a 4-3 OT heartbreaker against Canada to knock them out of the Olympics.

Czechia's run in the 2026 Olympics ended today in heartbreaking fashion, as they lost 4-3 in OT to Team Canada.
On two separate occasions, Czechia was not able to protect a one goal lead, and Canada not only tied the score late in the third but then won in sudden death OT after Mitch Marner scored.
Czechia's Martin Necas had a chance to score on a breakaway attempt with less than a minute left in regulation, but was stopped by Jordan Binnington.
But Czechia's head coach Radim Rulik is feeling sour after the loss because he feels the referees were not consistent enough and implied that they are biased toward Canada.
The referees really worry me. What they’re allowing against us is unacceptable. After every game, we send them two or three clips where they confirm that the opponent should have been penalized. I don’t understand it. I just don’t get it. I feel like everyone is afraid to call anything against Canada.

We were basically playing against six players. I don’t want to make excuses, and no one has to agree with me, but the video backs me up. In this respect, it’s not a fair tournament. It was happening to us even against Denmark. The mix of NHL and European referees hasn’t worked — everyone calls the game differently. - Radim Rulik

Czechia Coach Radim Rulik Believes There Should Have Been A Penalty On Martin Necas's Breakaway Attempt

Rulik then said that he feels that had the circumstances on Martin Necas's unsuccessful breakaway attempt happened in the NHL, that a penalty would have been called.
I watch two NHL games on replay every single day. The play Nečas made today — when his stick was touched on the breakaway — is always a penalty in the NHL. But suddenly, not here. - Radim Rulik
Is Czechia's coach guilty of sour grapes after a heartbreaking loss, or is he right about the officiating?
