‘You be the judge’: Emotional Nathan MacKinnon comments after losing out on gold medal

After an incredible 2026 Olympic Games, it all came down to Canada and the United States in the Gold Medal Game, and unsurprisingly, it was the best matchup of the entire tournament.

There was tension, physicality, intensity and some incredible hockey, but at the end of the day, it was Jack Hughes that came up big in 3-on-3 overtime, despite many fans being frustrated that's how things ended up being decided.

It wasn't for a lack of chances from Canada however, as they missed several golden opportunities to take the lead, namely from Nathan MacKinnon, who missed a wide open net late in the third period that would have been the deciding goal.

After the game, he was asked about those missed opportunities, making it clear that he thought Canada were the better team in this one, despite ultimately coming up short when it mattered most.

As we know though, it's not who is the better team, it's who gets the result, and after some key misses from Canada and a lack of finishing that defined their tournament, they were unable to get the job done, and clearly, MacKinnon and the rest of this team were incredibly dejected after the loss.

Now, with so much talent on both sides, attention turns to 2030, and given the amount of talent coming through the NHL in recent times, that tournament is set to take this rivalry to another level entirely.
