When Ryan Reaves got sent to the AHL, everyone thought he was a sure lock to play, however, he has yet to suit up for the Marlies so far and remains scratched.

Veteran winger Ryan Reaves cleared waivers on trade deadline day, prompting the Maple Leafs to loan him to the AHL's Toronto Marlies.

Reaves has been practising here and there with the Marlies

The Hockey News' Nick Barden reported Wednesday that Reaves has been practicing with the Marlies. It's unknown if he'll even play a game.
Marlies head coach John Gruden confirmed Reaves' presence on the ice, stating that it was his second skate with the team after he was sent over on March 7. The move was a cap-clearing move to facilitate deals like Scott Laughton and Brandon Carlo.
"He's been great coming in. I know he's been working on his game, skating with development staff. He's staying ready," Gruden said.

"He's just going to stay ready," Gruden added. "He's going to work with the development staff and at the end of the day, he's just going to continue to make sure he's ready to play regardless."

Whether or not Reaves sees game action, though, remains to be seen. Reaves has not spoken to the media since joining the Marlies, and therefore, his status is unknown. He had two assists in 35 games for the Leafs before being demoted.
Bringing him back would mean a player would have to go on long-term injured reserve because the Leafs only have $195,332 in cap space available, as per PuckPedia. Reaves carries a cap hit of $1.35 million.
For now, he'll stick in the AHL until the NHL playoffs, where the salary cap restrictions are waived. But barring the Marlies being desperate to use him, it's unlikely that the Leafs will bring him back in either for the playoffs.
