The Colorado Avalanche traded away some key prospects at the trade deadline, but now, they've brought in two very intriguing NCAA free agents.
This season has been an absolute whirlwind for the Colorado Avalanche thus far, and after many massive trades, their prospect pool isn't looking quite as impressive as it once did, especially after dealing top prospect Cal Ritchie to land
Brock Nelson from New York.
Now, they've jumped on the opportunity to add two very intriguing young players from the NCAA free agency pool, as the team announced two massive signings on social media.
First up is St. Cloud State goaltender
Isak Posch, who spent two years in the NCHC posting a career best 2.40 GAA and a .923 save percentage in 22 games for the team in 2024/25.
The 23-year old was beloved on and off the ice by his teammates, and after winning them many big games with his talent and his 6-foot-3 frame, he has a potentially very impressive future ahead of him.
The other signing comes in the form of forward
Cooper Gay from the University of St. Thomas where he posted career highs of 19 goals and 30 points in 35 games played in his third and final season with the team.
Standing at 6-foot-4, the Minnesota native has the physicality and the goal scoring ability to become a solid performer at the professional level, with fans certainly getting behind the talented young forward during his time at St. Thomas.
Ultimately, it's unlikely that either of these players will make a big impact at the NHL level anytime soon, but with patience and development, the Avalanche may have some very promising players in these two 23-year olds.
