The Edmonton Oilers have the best German player in the entire NHL in
Leon Draisaitl, but now in free agency, they've made an intriguing move to pick up another young name.
On Wednesday, the Oilers officially announced the signing of 23-year old Joshua Samanski, one of the most intriguing young players in Germany after another great year in the DEL.
The 6-foot-2 forward posted 14 goals and 40 points in 52 games played, improving upon totals of 18 and 27 over the past two years, showing immense improvement throughout his career at the top level in Germany.
Given his impressive physical stature, Samanski has shown that he's got a fantastic all around game as well, making him a potential future star for the Edmonton Oilers if they can handle his development well.
It wasn't easy for Edmonton to land him either, as there was reportedly NHL scouts at almost all of their home games this past season, with many teams around the league reportedly looking to bring him in as a free agent.
With the ability to score goals and shut opposing teams down on the other end, Samanski is one of the most intriguing free agents on the market, and while his timeline is unclear, the Oilers will no doubt want to bring him to the NHL very soon.
Ultimately though, it could have been the pull of Oilers German star Leon Draisaitl that proved to be the biggest factor in his signing, but no matter how it happened, the team now have a potential future star on their hands as they look to build for a Stanley Cup this year and many contending seasons beyond this one.
