Maple Leafs GM Comments on Ryan Reaves' Future After He Was Placed on Waivers

With the trade deadline already passed, Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving shared his real thoughts on placing veteran enforcer Ryan Reaves on waivers.
Craig Berube has worked the Toronto Maple Leafs hard this season to give fans a chance to see them break their historic cup drought.
General manager Brad Treliving, however, has had hold up his end of the bargain by putting up the right lineup of players before the trade deadline.
Ryan Reaves has only recorded two assists in 35 games this season, so placing him on waivers opened up the Leafs' opportunity to hire a more point-productive player.
"That was a difficult conversation. Ryan's a true pro. This isn't goodbye, right? Ryan's still a big part of our locker room. He's a part of the team."
Upon Reaves clearing waivers to play for the Marlies in the AHL, Treliving, expressed his gratitude he would still be available, and that he wants him back with the Maple Leafs sooner than later.
"My hope is that we can get him back sooner rather than later, but obviously you've got to work within the guidelines there. I'm glad that Ryan didn't go anywhere today."
Reaves has one year left on his $4.05 million contract and may find himself back on the Leafs lineup without playing with the Marlies in the AHL.
Though Treliving certainly wants the 38-year-old enforcer back quickly, how soon that happens has yet to be determined.
