Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving has acquired one of the key players available at the Trade Deadline, picking up Scott Laughton from the Flyers.
The 2025 Trade Deadline is upon us, and there have already been a flurry of deals across the National Hockey League.
In addition to Laughton, the Flyers are also picking up a 4th round pick and a 6th round pick to the Leafs.
According to reports, the Leafs are sending a conditional 1st round draft pick along with
Nikita Grebenkin back to the Flyers in return.
The Flyers are also retaining 50% of Laughton's salary.
Laughton has spent his entire NHL career with the Flyers, and has 27 points (11G, 16A) this year in 60 games played.
Originally from Ontario, Laughton now has a chance to play for his hometown team. Taken with the 20th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Laughton has 265 points (106G, 159A) in 661 career NHL contests.
Grebenkin was taken by the Leafs with the 135th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft and played his entire professional career in his native Russia until this year when he made the leap to North America.
He's played in 39 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs, scoring 21 points (9G, 12A).
The Leafs are facing a critical year in which they must not only advance past the 1st round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but go on an extended run in order to avoid major changes to the organization during the summer.
Treliving is hoping that Laughton's presence can go a long way toward accomplishing that goal.
