Atlantic Division Rivals Make Major Trade Involving $63.6 Million Player
The Buffalo Sabres have made a major move today, giving up on one of their promising young players by sending him to Ottawa.
The Buffalo Sabres remain one of the worst teams in the NHL as they continue their historic playoff drought.
As a result, the team are selling off players once again as the trade deadline picks up with just hours to go.
However, the team has made a somewhat peculiar move this morning as it was just reported that the club is moving on from former 7th overall pick
Dylan Cozens.
Cozens is heading to the Ottawa Senators, who are somewhat surprisingly in a position to buy at the deadline for the first time in nearly a decade.
That being said, the Sabres appear to be getting legit young talent in return for their 24-year-old center.
According to Kevin Weekes, Senators defenseman
Jacob Bernard-Docker and forward Joshua Norris are going back to Buffalo.
Cozens has 11 goals and 31 points this season, bringing his career totals to 77 goals and 197 points in 341 career games.
Norris on the other hand has 20 goals and 33 points this season, putting him at 90 goals and 156 points in 236 career games.
The move does seem like a downgrade for Ottawa though, which is confusing considering they should be the buyers here.
Furthermore, the team threw in Bernard Docker, which shows that Cozens' value was higher than Norris'
And yet, his advanced analytics do not paint him in the most positive light.
Hopefully Senators general manager Steve Staios won't regret this trade in the final stretch of the regular season.
With Cozens being on an $49.7 million deal, and Norris being on an $63.6 million deal, the total value moved in this trade is well into the nine figures.
