Simon Edvinsson wants out of Detroit, and one X account thinks Matvei Michkov is the answer in a Flyers and Red Wings blockbuster that helps both sides.
Simon Edvinsson is unsigned, frustrated and back in Sweden, and the trade chatter around him gets louder by the day.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on Oct. 3 that the 23-year-old Red Wings defenseman prefers a trade.
Detroit says signing him is still the top priority, but Pierre LeBrun reported a sizeable gap on salary remains and at least 10 teams have called.
If Edvinsson isn't signed or moved in a sign-and-trade by Dec. 1, he can't play this season.
Why Philadelphia fits
The Flyers have been linked to Edvinsson, and it's easy to see why.
He stands 6-foot-6, went sixth overall in 2021 and averaged 22:21 a night last season, second on Detroit behind Moritz Seider.
Philadelphia has also had a brutal start and could use help on the left side of its blue line.
One account on X sees an even bigger move.
It's a fun idea, but treat it as one.
Nobody has reported that Michkov is available, and he's widely seen as a core piece in Philadelphia.
What Detroit would get
Michkov is 21 and was the seventh overall pick in 2023.
He scored 26 goals as a rookie and 20 more last season, even while averaging just 14:50 of ice time.
Give him a bigger role and the upside is obvious.
Detroit owns the longest playoff drought in the NHL at ten years, so adding a scorer of his caliber would be a real swing.
The Red Wings would also have to survive losing their second-best defenseman.
Edvinsson reportedly wants $9 million to $11 million a year, and any team that lands him inherits that fight.
Until a deal or a signing happens, this one stays a rumor worth watching.
