Minnesota Wild sources are pushing back firmly against speculation that Quinn Hughes could be dealt to the New Jersey Devils.

According to The Athletic's Michael Russo, the team has not engaged with New Jersey or any other club regarding a potential trade involving their star defenseman.
As the Wild continue extension talks with Quinn Hughes, league sources emphatically shot down reports that the Wild have engaged the Devils, or any team, in trade talks

The rumors gained traction partly because of the Hughes family connection.
Both of Quinn's brothers, Jack and Luke, already play for New Jersey, fueling speculation about a possible reunion.
Hughes has also acknowledged those ties, telling reporters in May he wants clarity on his future but remains open to signing an extension with Minnesota.

Where Contract Talks Stand

Hughes has one season remaining on his contract at $7.8 million and became extension eligible on July 1.
Minnesota's front office, led by Bill Guerin, continues to negotiate regularly with Hughes' agent, Pat Brisson.
Russo has reported the delay stems largely from a shifting salary landscape across the league, with several stars recently signing deals well above $18 million annually.
Notably, Guerin did call the Devils this summer, but that outreach was about Jack Hughes, not Quinn, and no deal materialized.

Why It Matters for Minnesota

Since arriving from Vancouver in December, Hughes has been a difference-maker, posting 76 points across the regular season and adding 15 points in 11 playoff appearances.
Locking him up long-term is a top offseason priority for a franchise still building around Kirill Kaprizov.
With training camp approaching, all signs point toward Minnesota working to keep Hughes rather than move him.
