Brady Tkachuk's time in Canada's capital has come to an end. Per Pierre LeBrun, he is being traded to the Florida Panthers for multiple picks.
Tkachuk, the fourth overall pick in 2018, has served as Ottawa's captain since 2022, and has been among their best players since joining the team nearly a decade ago.
He will join his brother Matthew in Florida, the sixth overall pick from 2018, to hopefully continue a dynasty started with two cups in 2024 and 2025.
This is a truly massive deal, with the reported return being three first round picks, and a second round pick.
A new era for Brady Tkachuk, south of the border
Brady, who was a star for Team USA at the Olympics, will head south of the border in this deal. It has long been rumoured he'd want to join his brother, but the logistics never seemed realistic.
With the Panthers holding multiple first round picks this year, ninth overall due to them missing the playoffs, and 25th overall from the Mackie Samoskevich deal earlier today, they were able to execute this jaw dropper.
Tkachuk, who holds a full no move clause, was reportedly willing to waive for four teams - Florida, Minnesota, Vegas, and the reigning cup champion Carolina Hurricanes.
GM Steve Staios tried to push for center Anton Lindell in the deal, but did not manage to acquire him.
What a day, and what a trade.
