Oilers trade lands Kirill Marchenko for five pieces in blockbuster proposal

Kirill Marchenko headlines a mock Oilers trade sending Savoie, Stastney, Kapanen and two firsts to Columbus. Would Edmonton actually pull the trigger?
A fresh mock trade is making the rounds, and it would hand the Edmonton Oilers a serious jolt up front.
IceMetrix floated a package to land Columbus Blue Jackets winger Kirill Marchenko, and the price tag is steep.
Columbus would get Matthew Savoie, Spencer Stastney, Kasperi Kapanen, a 2028 first-round pick and a conditional 2029 first-round pick.
Edmonton would get Marchenko, with an extension attached for the 26-year-old winger.
That's a lot of bodies and a lot of draft capital.
Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell has said teams are calling him, not the other way around, and that a picks-and-prospects return doesn't work for his franchise.
Why Columbus might listen
Savoie, Stastney and Kapanen are all NHL players right now, which fits what Waddell says he wants.
Savoie played all 82 games last season with 18 goals and 37 points, and he had earned time on Connor McDavid's wing by April.
Stastney re-signed for one year at $1.525 million in July, and Kapanen also landed a new deal this summer.
Toss in two firsts and Columbus would walk away with real value.
What Edmonton gets
Marchenko has arguably been the Blue Jackets' best forward the past two seasons, piling up 58 goals and 141 points in 155 games.
He's on a $3.85 million cap hit in the final year of his deal and heads to restricted free agency next summer.
His agent has said he won't extend in Columbus, and Boston, Toronto and Montreal have reportedly checked in.
That's why the extension matters so much in this mock.
Edmonton wouldn't be renting a scorer, it would be locking him in.
The cost is depth and future flexibility, though.
With the regular season just around the corner, this noise isn't going away.
